SECOND, Julian came up and said, 'Lets go together.' And we both went along singing songs.
Growning up in Wales, I trained at L'Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris and with The Elevator Repair Service Theatre Company in New York. During this time I also co-founded the award winning and internationally touring Rhum and Clay Theatre Company.
I am currently an associate artist at the Newbury Corn Exchange Theatre, 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space and The Artrix Arts Centre. Post Rhum and Clay I now specialise in creating large scale outdoor, spectacle theatre with communities.
For 2018 key projects included directing The Midnight Gang by David Walliams for Heartbreak Productions for a full three month UK outdoor tour, Touring The Intergalactic Circus of Truths across the UK, including at Larmer Tree Festival, Green Man Festival, Bestival, Boomtown and Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland and project managing The Pumpkin storytelling tent for the Oxford Story Museum, brokering relationship with key steak holders including The South Bank Centre, Bestival and The Royal Academy. He was also the director of The Festival of Light Bromsgrove.
Over September I joined the creative team at Rosa Productions on The Greenham Cold War Experience and ShademakersUK at Gravity Fields Festival with the outdoor carnival spectacular The Voyage of Joseph Banks, which involved sailing Captain Cooke’s ship The Endeavour down Grantham High Street in front of an audience of 6000 people.
I also worked on Greenham:100 Years of War and Peace This was a piece of large scale site specific work, situated on the Ex-US Cruise missile base on Greenham Common, working with a community cast of 300 and played out to audiences of up to 5000 with national BBC coverage.
This Winter I was the Artistic Director The Festival of Light, Bromsgrove 2018, in partnership with the Artrix Arts Centre, Arts Council England and Bromsgrove District Council. Working in collaboration with Shademakers I transformed the high street into a Winter Carnival of the Animals, and trebled the community outreach from year one’s six schools and community groups, when I walked a twenty foot giant through the town, to twenty schools and community groups who produced over 800 lanterns for this year’s parade.
High profile previous performance work includes: Dancing in the ensemble in Viktor and Nur Du Tanz with Theatre Wuppertal Pina Bausch (Sadlers Wells), puppeteering in War Horse (New London Theatre) The Iceage Ritual (Site.Specific at the British Museum) Nocturne du Soiree (Le Louvre, Paris) and performing in Romeo and Juliet with The National Ballet of Canada (Sadlers Wells)
I have also been an associate lecturer at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Northampton University and currently Winchester University.
